Where we work

Asia

In Asia, We Effect are supporting smallholder farmers and member based organisations to work together, to battle poverty, climate change, and inequalities. We emphasize gender equality and empowering women, knowing that is key to bringing an end to poverty. We also support housing cooperatives, because every family has the right to a decent and safe home.

Cambodia

Our work in Cambodia is part of the programme Strengthening Capacities for sustainable development of Cooperatives and other Civil Society Organizations in South East Asia, which includes support to local organisations in Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia.

This programme aims to strengthen the capacities of local cooperatives, cooperative unions, alliances, community based organisations, small scale farmers and their communities, in addressing the needs and rights of their low income members and constituents. The programme mainly addresses rural development issues, environmental sustainability, small business development and gender equality.

In Cambodia the programme is implemented in rural areas in two provinces. The projects are executed by two local NGOs in the participating provinces.

Myanmar

Our work in Myanmar/Burma is part of the programme Strengthening Capacities for sustainable development of Cooperatives and other Civil Society Organizations in South East Asia, which includes support to local organisations in Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar / Burma.

This programme aims to strengthen the capacities of local cooperatives, cooperative unions, alliances, community based organisations, small scale farmers and their communities, in addressing the needs and rights of their low income members and constituents. The programme mainly addresses rural development issues, environmental sustainability, small business development and gender equality.

In Myanmar, we support civil society organisations in order to promote civil and economic rights in the country.

Palestine

Our support to local organisations in Palestine is gathered in the programme Promoting Sustainable Rural Economy and Democracy in Palestine.

The programme aims to contribute in the development of the social enterprise sector in the area, in particular the cooperatives. By empowering them, they are expected to become significant contributors to the social economy sector in Palestine. This will in turn reinforce the growth of the Palestinian economy in general.

We Effect also have Humanitarian Aid projects in Palestine.

Our work in Palestine includes strengthening the institutional and business capacities of cooperatives in the West Bank and Gaza, supporting cooperative unions in becoming more efficient in providing service to their members, strengthening capacities of cooperatives in the West bank to produce adequate and high quality products, such as honey, traditional food, grape juice and vinegar.

Philippines

Our support to local organisations in Philippines is gathered in the programme Advancing Civic Capacities for Effective and Sustainable Services to the Poor.

Supporting typhoon affected families, like the Bernal’s, to live in strong homes, is a part of We Effect’s work in the Philippines.

This programme aims to strengthen the capacities of local NGOs and cooperatives in addressing the needs and rights of their poor and low income members and constituents. The programme is implemented in 25 rural farming communities and five urban poor communities. We also work with 24 cooperatives for their housing needs and targets on gender equality.

We Effect support farmers organisations in several communities, we also support housing cooperatives in their struggle for access to adequate government support, and slum dwellers and urban communities in Metro Manila, to improve their living conditions. Gender equality is also a major focus of our work in the Philippines.

Sri Lanka

Our support to local organisations in Sri Lanka is gathered in the programme Strengthening of cooperatives and other civil society organisations in Sri Lanka.

This programme aims to strengthen the capacities of local cooperatives, community based organisations and NGOs in addressing the needs and rights of their low income members and constituents. Three main development areas are: development of organisations and their capabilities, environmental sustainability and women´s rights.

Some example of our work in Sri Lanka includes supporting cooperatives in order for them to become competetive in the market and to provide better services to their members. We also support cooperatives to improve socio-economic conditions in several communities. Further, our work includes supporting farmers in developing strategies and methods for sustainable eco-farm production and marketing. Empowering women, making them a stronger voice in society, is also a major focus.

Vietnam

We Effect´s work in Vietnam is part of the programme Strengthening Capacities for sustainable development of Cooperatives and other Civil Society Organisations in South East Asia, which includes support to local organisations in Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia.

This programme aims at strengthening the capacities of local cooperatives, cooperative unions, alliances, community based organisations, small scale farmers and their communities, in addressing the needs and rights of their low income members and constituents. The programme mainly addresses rural development issues, environmental sustainability, small business development and gender equality.

In Vietnam the programme is implemented in rural areas of five provinces. The projects are executed by Cooperative Alliances in the participating provinces.

We work with strengthening cooperatives among ethnic minority groups, supporting cooperatives in improving their business capacity and improving internal democracy, service to members and access to markets for cooperatives in several provinces.
